BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: 8/14/2012, 12:30 pm EST.  GOVERNOR OF TENNESSEE, BILL HASLAM CLAIMS HE “CANT DO ANYTHING”….. INFORMED US TO ALL CONTACT THE FOLLOWING:  County Mayor, John Pelham, Phone 931-473-2505, Email jpelham@warrencountytn.gov, Fax 931-473-0635 …

On August 8, 2012 a stray dog (now named Corona) was brutally attacked and shot. Her attack was not provoked or warranted. When the Warren County Humane Society filed a police report, they were told by the Deputy that maybe “The shooter was just shooting the mean out of her.”

The Sheriff’s office has not been investigating. This animal was shot in a rural area where only 12 homes were in the vicinity. An investigation would not be time tasking, yet the Sheriff has not completed one.

A few days later, a family owned dog, 1 year old Jake was shot three times in front of witnesses in Warren County. The dog, Jake was friendly and the shooting was unwarranted. The shooting of this dog was next to a children’s outdoor birthday party. This shooter not only committed a class E felony by shooting an animal that was not portraying any aggression, he also endangered the lives of children. Warren County Sheriff refused to press charges or come out to the house when called.

The Sheriff does not have the legal right to disregard the laws: 39-14-205 intentional killing of animals section A1. which reads A person who intentionally or knowingly unlawfully kills the animal of another, with the intent to deprive the owner of the right to the animals life and without the owner’s effective consent commits theft of that animal and shall be punished under 39-14-105.

Also 3911-621 reads: That a private citizen can not use or threaten to use deadly force except to the extent authorized under self defense or defense of third person statutes 39-11-611 and 39-11-612. The shooter was not defending anyone and therefore broke this law. He also endangered the lives of children by unjustifiably firing a gun 3 times in their vicinity.

The shooter has caused painful emotional trauma to the children that had to witness this brutal murder of a family pet.

The Warren County Sheriff has demonstrated a clear lack of respect for the laws and the safety of his citizens. His tolerance and acceptance for cruel animal abuse begs the question is he ethically fit for his position? We who sign this petition demand that the Governor and Tennessee state legislation ensure that the laws Sheriff Matheny has disregarded are upheld. The people and the animals of Warren County deserve this. Animal cruelty and endangering the safety of all citizens can not be tolerated.

Did Lennox Die Months Before He was Allegedly Killed?

BACKGROUND | DIGITAL JOURNAL
Belfast – On July 11, Belfast City Council (BCC) announced that it had euthanized Lennox the dog under the Dangerous Dogs Act, but according to an informant, the dog died in his kennel months before his execution date.

A few days ago, Dr. Leigh Foster, the creator and host of the radio-based ‘Pawz Cauze Show’ announced that she had been given information by an unidentified informant that Lennox the dog died months before he was due to be executed by Northern Ireland’s Belfast City Council.

Foster said she was contacted by an anonymous person shortly after ending her show on July 11, the day Lennox was allegedly put to sleep. The informant she said, told her that employees at the shelter where Lennox was secured, “went into his kennel one morning to give him his medication for kennel stress, food, and water,” and found Lennox dead.

In a panic said the informant, the shelter contacted BCC for further instruction and was told to “have the body cremated immediately and to destroy the collar, clean the kennel and remove all evidence that Lennox was even there,” Foster said. The informant even went as far to suggest that this was shared by BCC with the judge in the Lennox case, who upheld the ruling of two lower courts ordering Lennox’s death.

A transcript of Foster’s allegations between the doctor and her informant was posted by June Maxim of the North Country Gazette. A copy of the article is also posted here, and on July 18, the North Country Gazette followed up with an announcement that the informant may have been identified.

Foster writes that if the allegations are in fact true, then it would explain a great deal about how and why BCC handled the case as they did. It would also explain why the Barnes family were not allowed to see Lennox she said, why the dog’s collar was not returned to the family, and more importantly, why despite repeated pleas for amnesty, even from Northern Ireland’s First Minister Peter Robinson, BCC refused to back down.

In a post on Facebook just a couple of hours ago, Victoria Stilwell, the star of the popular It’s Me or the Dog show, posted this statement:

The family have told me that Belfast City Council will still not answer the family’s calls and have consistently ignored their request to have Lennox’s collar returned to them, nor have they returned ‘Lennox’s ashes.’

There are many rumors circulating that Lennox died in a certain kennel location months before the BCC announced that he was euthanised and that the kennel panicked and were told by the BCC to get rid of everything Lennox related.

These are still just rumors and should not be taken for hard fact until the truth is revealed. The family are ‘heartbroken’.

Stilwell had campaigned on Lennox’s behalf and had offered to re-home the dog (all expenses paid), in the US.

Certainly photographic evidence appeared to show that Lennox was not in the best of health during his stay at the kennel. Images leaked to the family at one point, showed that the canine was missing huge patches of fur, often indicative of kennel stress.

For more than two years, the Barnes family who owned Lennox, pursued all legal avenues to bring their dog home after he was seized by the BCC in May 2010. But by mid-June, a final court ruling upheld the decision of two lower courts who ordered Lennox to be destroyed under the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA).

Lennox’s Prison Warden Receives Promotion ~ Please Protest.

PEACEFUL PROTEST ~ PROTEST INSTRUCTIONS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE

BACKGROUND | DIGITAL JOURNAL

Antrim – With outrage still swirling over the death of Lennox the dog, it appears that Alexandra Lightfoot, the dog warden who testified under oath that Lennox was “one of the most aggressive dogs” she had dealt with, received a promotion.
Lennox, the Labrador/American Bulldog, was destroyed on July 11 by Belfast City Council (BCC), despite a massive campaign to free the dog and re-home him in the USA.

More than 200,000 people had signed a petition asking the BCC to spare Lennox. Dog trainer Victoria Stilwell, star of It’s Me or the Dog, had offered to re-home him in the US. Even Northern Ireland’s First Minister Peter Robinson, asked Belfast’s Lord Mayor about Lennox’s case and suggested BCC should seriously look at the re-homing option, considering the dog had no violent history.

But it was all to no avail. BCC carried out the court’s destruction order as soon as it was viable to do so. Robinson called the act shameful. “Destroying a dog that had no history of aggression is folly” he said, “and shames society.” But it was more shameful in that the court ignored independent assessments from two certified dog behaviorists – David Ryans and Sarah Fisher, and relied solely on the testimony of two people, Peter Tallack (a dog handler), and Alexandra Lightfoot (a dog warden), both employed by BCC.

Alexandra Lightfoot, also known as Sandie Lightfoot, took the stand and testified under oath that Lennox was “one of the most aggressive dogs” she had ever seen, and she was scared to be around him. But her account did not jibe with video captured one year after Lennox was seized, that showed Ms. Lightfoot holding and petting Lennox during Ryan’s assessment.

FOR LENNOX ~ Help Princess Angelina Send Twitter Messages to Belfast City Council

A Shameful End to the Fight to Save Lennox.

Despite exhaustive efforts by the family, politicians, celebrities and the international public outcry to save Lennox the dog after a two-year battle, he was sadly killed the morning of July 11, 2012.

Lennox was a 5 year old American Bull dog and Lab mix that was taken from his home and family in Northern Ireland in May, 2010 because he resembled a Pit Bull. The Belfast City Council seized Lennox under the Dangerous Dog Act, breed specific legislation that has marked Pit Bulls as a threat. As midnight came and went, so did the opportunity for the family to appeal the Belfast City Council’s decision to kill Lennox. Sometime the morning of July 11, 2012, Lennox was put to sleep without his family who were not allowed to see him over the past two years or even say goodbye.

The Belfast City Council posted the following press release following the despicable act:

Dangerous dog is put to sleep following final court decision

Belfast City Council confirmed on July 11, 2012 that the dog Lennox, an illegal pit-bull terrier type, has been humanely put to sleep. This was in accordance with the Order of the County Court which was affirmed by the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal.

Whilst there is an exemption scheme to which dogs of this type (pit-bull terrier type) may be admitted as an alternative to destruction, there were no such measures that could be applied in this case that would address the concerns relating to public safety. The Council`s expert described the dog as one of the most unpredictable and dangerous dogs he had come across.

Over the past two years, Council officials have been subjected to a sustained campaign of abuse including threats of violence and death threats. The Council has been in ongoing contact with the PSNI in relation to that.

The Council regrets that the court action was necessary but would emphasise that the safety of the public remains its key priority.

Two Dogs Burned Alive in Texas ~ Watch Video ~ Sign Petition

BACKGROUND | WWW.KLTV7

An East Texas man is charged with Animal Cruelty after throwing two dogs into a burning fire pit.

Authorities say one of the dogs died when 28-year-old Larry Lowery threw it into a fire pit. The Wood County Sheriff tells us the second dog ran away while on fire.

According to the Wood County Sheriff, four people were sitting around a fire pit drinking alcoholic beverages, watching the dogs burn.

“I seen my granddaughter, she’s five years old and I saw her crying and I said, Rylee what’s wrong baby? and she said, Grand Mammy, that man threw a dog into that fire,” said Fay Norris, a next door neighbor.

Faye Norris says after her granddaughter told her what happened, she confronted those at the fire pit.

“He put his arm around me and told me he was sorry,” said Norris.

Norris said Lowery’s attitude was as if he didn’t care.

“It was a joke to him. He had been drinking and he thought it was funny,” said Norris.

Just a short time after that confrontation , Norris says Lowery threw a second dog into the fire.

“Later on when I went into the house to eat supper and come back out, I found out he threw another dog into the fire.

When asked how she found out he threw the second dog in she said, “He said he did, he was bragging about it,” said Norris.

One of the dogs was thrown in, got up and ran off, and nobody has seen it since, and the other one is laying over there in the pit, it’s just unbelievable,” said neighbor Michael Mays.

Bill Wansley, the Wood County Sheriff said Lowery gave a voluntary statement admitting he grabbed a stray dog who had bit him two weeks earlier, swinging it towards the fire and then stumbled, and accidentally tossed the dog into the fire.

“It takes a mentally disturbed individual, my opinion, to do something that cruel,” said Norris.

Lowery was charged with cruelty to animals, a state jail felony. He was released Tuesday on a $5,000 bond. The case will be forwarded to the Wood County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Lovely Lexi Needs a New Home

Rescued by The Pet Connection (and adopted by us almost two years ago), Lexi is an eight year old female pit bull/bulldog mix. She had a malignant tumor successfully removed from her hind leg over a year ago and shows no sign of recurrence. She weighs about 75 pounds and is very healthy. She is remarkably friendly and easy-going (and lazy), so she would be ideal with other dogs and/or children.

Lexi is kennel-trained, house-broken and does OK (tends to pull a little hard) on a leash. We have been giving her a daily barrage of vitamins and other holistic remedies to help prevent the cancer from returning. We have provided her with a high degree of medical care, both curative and preventative, and will provide her new guardian with all of the holistics she is taking, her kennel, her leashes, her shampoo, and her medical records.

Handsome Chico Needs a New Home.

A resident of The Pet Connection for over a year, Chico is a six year old pitbull. He is a strikingly handsome dog who exhibits unmatched loyalty and love to his guardians. He weighs about 70 pounds and is the epitome of physical health.

With his amazing strength, athleticism, and territorialism, Chico is a formidable protector and watchdog.  He is a handful, though. Chico is dog aggressive, primarily toward other males, though he does get along with Lexi, our 8 year old female pit.

Close vigilance and separation from other most other dogs are a must with him. He also exhibits separation anxiety, so an ideal guardian would be someone who is looking for a good watchdog and a very loving companion, has the energy to keep up with Chico, spends a lot of time around the house, is willing to be a one-dog owner, and is willing to exert the responsibility necessary to manage a dog with some behavioral issues. Chico can be trying but he is worth it!

Also he is house-broken, kennel trained, does well walking on a gentle leader, and had the benefit of some assessment and training by Wayne Hunthausen. He has been a member of our family for four years. Unfortunately, circumstances are preventing us from keeping him. We will provide his new guardian with his leash, gentle leader, kennel, and medical records.
